Professional Shrubbery Care

Keeping your shrubs trimmed, tidy, and healthy is key to increasing your property’s beauty and value. A good time to prune is when they start to look untidy — but the right technique matters as much as the timing.

Thinning removes branches at the base to open the crown, let in more light, and keep the shrub from outgrowing its space. We also use thinning to train shrubs into small tree forms.

Shaping cuts branches back to where they meet another branch or bud at a 45-degree angle. For a formal look, we trim new shoots by half in early summer, then again in fall while tapering the sides.

DIY pruning often goes too far, costing you flowers and fruit. We prune only when there is a clear reason — thinning old branches, heading back leggy stems, and removing dead wood to keep shrubs healthy for years.

What's Included

Why Professional Shrub Care Matters

Plant Health

Proper pruning removes dead and diseased branches, improves air circulation, and encourages strong new growth. It prevents minor issues from turning into problems that shorten a shrub’s productive life.

Curb Appeal

Well-maintained shrubs are one of the first things visitors and buyers notice. Neatly shaped hedges, clean borders, and healthy foliage make your property look cared for and increase its value.

Controlled Growth

Without regular care, shrubs outgrow their space, crowd walkways, block windows, and compete with other plants. Professional trimming keeps them at the right size for years without damaging the plant.

Our Shrub Care Process

1. Free Consultation
We walk your property, evaluate each shrub, and discuss what you want — a formal manicured look, natural shape, or overgrowth brought back under control. You get a written estimate before any work begins.
2. Assessment & Plan
We identify each species and determine the right approach — thinning, heading, rejuvenation, or a combination. Flowering shrubs are timed to preserve blooms. Overgrown shrubs may need a phased plan over two or three seasons.
3. Professional Pruning & Shaping
Our crew makes precise cuts at the right points — never shearing indiscriminately. We taper sides, shape tops, thin interior branches, and remove dead wood to keep your shrubs dense, healthy, and properly sized.
4. Cleanup & Haul-Away
We remove all clippings, branches, and debris from your property. Your beds and walkways look clean and sharp when we leave.

Frequently Asked Questions

It depends on the species. Spring-flowering shrubs (like azaleas and lilacs) should be trimmed right after they finish blooming. Summer-flowering shrubs can be trimmed in late winter or early spring while dormant. Evergreen hedges are typically trimmed in late spring and again in early fall. We’ll advise you on the best timing during your free consultation.
In most cases, yes. We use rejuvenation pruning — cutting overgrown shrubs back hard over one or two seasons to encourage fresh, compact growth from the base. Some species respond to a single hard cut; others do better with a phased approach. We’ll assess your shrubs and recommend the right method.
Most shrubs benefit from at least one or two trimmings per year. Fast-growing hedges like privet may need trimming three or four times during the growing season. Slower-growing ornamentals may only need annual shaping. We can set up a maintenance schedule tailored to your property.
Shearing cuts the outer surface of a shrub uniformly — good for formal hedges but can cause dense outer growth that shades out the interior. Pruning makes selective cuts at specific points on individual branches, which is healthier for the plant and produces a more natural look. We use the right approach for each situation.
Cost depends on the number of shrubs, their size, and how much work is needed. A few foundation shrubs is a quick job; a full property with multiple hedges and ornamentals takes more time.
